Job Classification: Police Officer
The City of Newark is building an eligibility list for Police Officer.
The City of Newark requires the candidate PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. NTN suggest completing the PHQ as soon as possible to not cause any delays in consideration by the department.
All testing must be completed by December 31st, 2025.
Salary Information: $ 61,672.90 to $ 85,101.70 per year pay range
(Not counting Overtime/Shift Differential/Special Duty)
Patrol Schedule: (4) Four, (10) Ten hour Shifts with one weekend day off per week. Scheduled days off are (Sun, Mon, Tue) or (Thurs, Fri, Sat).
You may also earn and retain up to 480 Hours of compensatory time to be utilized for additional time off per the collective bargaining agreement.

Schooling Prior and Post Hiring :
· Must complete annual agency in-service training required by federal, state and local laws and agency accrediting bodies.
· Must successfully certify on handgun/shotgun/rifle/TASER annually.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:
Disqualifying Factors for Entry Level Positions Division of Police. Persons making application for the position of Police Officer with the Division of Police should not possess any disqualifying factors enumerated below. In the event that such person possesses any of such disqualifying factors, he or she may be eliminated from the process for this position.
In the event that it is later determined that such applicant possesses any of the disqualifying factors, and his or her name appears on an eligibility list for such position, this may be grounds for removal of the applicant's name from such eligibility list and he or she shall not be considered for employment in such position. If it is determined, at any time that the applicant has made false or misleading statements in the application which has resulted in his or her name being placed on an eligibility list for these positions, this shall be grounds for removal of his or her name from any eligibility list. Recommendations from qualified persons (i.e., polygraph expert, CVSA expert, psychologist) may be used in the determination of disqualifying criteria. Any person who is disqualified or eliminated from consideration will be notified in writing by the Commission.
· Has ever been convicted, as an adult, of a violation involving physical, sexual or emotional abuse.
· Has been convicted, as an adult, of non-support of dependents at any time within the five (5) years preceding the date of this application.
· Has been discharged with cause from any law enforcement or emergency services agency.
· Has ever been convicted of a felony offense of any nature.
· Has ever been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor or felony charge of domestic violence.
· Has been convicted of any misdemeanor violent offense within the past five (5) years preceding the date of this application.
· Has been convicted of any misdemeanor theft offense within the past five (5) years from the date of this application.
· Has ever committed a theft offense where the value of the property involved exceeds two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00).
· Has been convicted of a criminal violation for the use, purchase or distribution of marijuana, cocaine or any controlled substance within the five (5) years preceding the dated of this application.
· Has used, purchased or sold cocaine or any controlled substance, not including marijuana, within the five (5) years preceding the date of this application.
· Has used, purchased or sold marijuana within the two (2) years preceding the date of this application.
· Has ever used marijuana more than ten (10) times within a one year period within the past ten (10) years preceding the date of this application.
· Has ever been convicted of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Homicide or Aggravated Vehicular Assault.
· Has been convicted of a violation of Operating a Motor Vehicle While and/or Driving While Under the Influence within five (5) years from the date of this application.
· Has been convicted of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Drugs and/or Alcohol more than one (1) time as an adult.
· Has had any driver's license suspensions within the three (3) years preceding the date of this application for any reason.
· Has had more than three (3) moving violations within the twelve (12) months preceding the date of this application.
· Has ever been convicted of the charge of fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer. Currently has more than six (6) points on record.
· Has filed bankruptcy within the three (3) years preceding the date of this application.
· Received a dishonorable discharge from any United States military service.
· Is now, or has ever been a member of any organization that advocates crime or violence or the overthrow of the United States Government by force or illegal means.
· Has not disclosed ever having had a criminal conviction for any offense as an adult expunged from your record.
· Has ever had a certification to be a Police Officer, Firefighter, Paramedic, EMT-B, or EMT-A revoked or rescinded by a State Board or Agency.

· A passing grade of at least 70% on the National Testing Network (combined video, written, and reading) Test must have been taken and scores submitted within the NTN guidelines.

· Your submitted documents and PHQ were preliminarily reviewed for disqualifiers.
· Passed the Physical Abilities Test at or above the below standards;
· Police Entry Level Fitness Standards (Cooper 40th percentile)
· Upper Body Strength (minimum push-ups in 1 minute)
· Core Body Strength (minimum sit-ups in 1 minute)
· Aerobic Fitness (1.5 Mile Run)
· All bonus points were added to NTN testing scores to develop the eligibility list that will be submitted to the Civil Service Commission
· Civil Service certifies the list.
· Background checks are completed.
· Interviews completed.
· Conditional offer of employment granted.
