PRIMARY DUTY
Perform duties to maintain the cleanliness of resident and facility linens and clothing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Sorts laundry by proper category: color, fabric, type, etc. and prepares for washing by presoaking as appropriate
- Loads and removes articles into washers and driers
- Mixes and adds detergents, dyes, bleaches, starches, and other solutions and chemicals to clean, color, dry, or stiffen articles
- Starts washers and driers, and turns valves or levers to regulate machine processes and the volume of soap, detergent, water, bleach, starch, and other additives
- Sorts and count articles removed from dryers, and fold, wrap, or hang them
- Inspects soiled articles to determine sources of stains, to locate color imperfections, and to identify items requiring special treatment
- Cleans and disinfects floors, appliances, folding tables, delivery carts and all laundry areas, including, but not limited to dryers
- Assures proper storage of supplies and that proper equipment is available and in good repair
- Labels laundry, numbers and dates incoming resident lifting equipment slings and restraints per the facility procedures
- Eliminates crossing of soiled and clean linen and stocks linens areas per guidelines
- Picks up and delivers linens to units per schedule and delivers soiled linens to laundry
- Uses proper equipment to distribute personal laundry to residents’ closets
- Maintains fire aisles when picking up and delivering laundry
- Reports any repair needs to supervisor or maintenance department as appropriate
- Observes for resident safety when in resident care areas
- Complies with state, federal, and all other applicable health care and safety standards
- Assists families and other visitors as needed
- Attends/completes required in-services and other required meetings
- Performs other duties as directed
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE an equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred; previous experience in housekeeping or maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS of this position are generally as follows:
- This position does not require supervisory responsibility

- Sanitation and Safety - Knowledge of principles and requirements of sanitation and safety in handling housekeeping tasks and equipment
- Math Ability- Basic knowledge of arithmetic and algebra

COMPUTER SKILLS/EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
- Laundry-type washing machines, including but not limited to light commercial washing machines, washer extractors, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
- The employee is occasionally required to wear protective clothing
- The employee may be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel or crouch, use hands to use hands to grasp, manipulate or feel objects and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
