Job Description

Position Summary: The Direct Support Professional is a full time position. Assist individuals on a daily basis through the provision of active treatment and programming according to the individual treatment plan. Provide each individual the opportunity to be independent and productive according to their individual capabilities with opportunities for choice and physical and social integration into their community.

 

Responsibilities

  • Direct Support Professional performs a wide variety of routine tasks and activities in support of the full range of services provided to developmentally disabled individuals by the Agency
  • These tasks involve encouraging, guiding and training individuals in developing daily living skills and habits, taking care of their personal needs, assuring community integration, ensuring the health and safety of individuals, and maintaining the service environment
  • Provide services in train on daily living skills and independent skills
  • Provide services and training to individuals in areas including, but not limited to, counseling, health, personal hygiene, budgeting, food preparation, activities of daily living, and recreation
  • Comply with all policies of the Agency and all applicable state and federal regulations
  • Document and report all incidents and abuses to supervisors on a timely manner

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent 

• Background working with individuals with intellectual disabilities a plus.

• Ability to support people with intellectual/developmental disabilities

• Valid NY State Driver's License may be required depending upon the position

• Interpersonal and problem-solving skills

• Willing to take initiative

• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

• Must have or be able to obtain CPR, First Aid, AMAP, and SCIP Certifications
