About the Team

As a Data Scientist in TikTok's Trust and Safety team, you will drive data-driven decisions and form roadmaps to ensure that TikTok remains a safe and trustworthy environment. By implementing your domain knowledge, you will help diagnose, triage, and treat large-scale safety issues. You will scope out projects, use ground-truth data to inform strategies, and influence product design. You will partner with stakeholders across product, operations, policy, and engineering teams globally. You will implement strategies and design products to proactively detect and disarm safety incidents while protecting creator experience.

It is possible that this role will expose you to harmful content as part of the core role, in response to escalation requests, or by chance. Some content viewed may violate community guidelines, including but not limited to bullying, hate speech, child abuse, sexual assault, torture, bestiality, self-harm, suicide, and murder.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement comprehensive metrics and quantitative measurement frameworks to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of risk control policies.
• Continuously refine measurement methodologies to ensure accurate tracking of risk control capabilities.
• Lead short-term and long-term strategic planning by conducting in-depth business analysis, industry research, and market trend assessments.
• Translate insights into actionable business plans to improve platform safety and policy operability.
• Partner with stakeholders using data-driven approaches, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Monitor policy impacts on risk control capabilities, leveraging statistical methods to establish an efficient decision-making system.
• Abstract and standardize reusable analytical methodologies and tools to enhance team efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to provide actionable insights, drive data-informed strategies, and implement improvements.
• Proactively communicate findings and recommendations to leadership, fostering a culture of data-inspired decision-making across the organization.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or above in mathematics or statistics-related majors, with a solid foundation in statistical theories and experimental design.
• Experience in quantifying complex problems and using statistical methods, such as designing experiments and making causal inferences.
• Proficient in data analysis and statistical analysis tools like SQL, Python, R, Excel, and Tableau.
• 2+ years of experience in the data science industry, with experience in designing success metrics and A/B testing.
• Preferred qualifications:
• Ability to translate technical findings into clear, strategic recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven track record of working cross-functionally to drive data-informed initiatives in fast-paced environments.
• Acute ability to grasp industry technology development trends and possess strong macro analysis and decision-making capabilities.

Job Information

• Compensation Description (Annually)
• The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $144000 - $329333 annually. Compensation may vary depending on factors including qualifications, skills, and location.
• Benefits may vary by employment nature and location, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and wellbeing benefits.
• Employees receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year, and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
