Job Description
The Clinical Educator plays a vital role in maintaining an ongoing nursing education program to ensure nursing staff meet regulatory requirements. This position will support the development of all assigned staff, including new hires, while fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. As a part of the Clinical Education team, the Clinical Educator will design, teach, and evaluate training programs that help staff maintain competency and grow professionally. You will also provide career development resources, coordinate clinical specialty training programs, and assist with the integration of new learning into daily nursing practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain a comprehensive nursing education program to meet the ongoing training needs of nursing staff.
Ensure competency of all assigned staff, including new hires, through training, support, and evaluation.
Act as both a formal and informal consultant to help staff integrate new knowledge into their nursing practice.
Provide ongoing development opportunities to professional and non-professional staff to maintain and enhance competency.
Design, teach, and evaluate educational programs that include both in-person training and simulation-based learning.
Promote a patient/family-centered, culturally relevant approach to care through educational activities.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the effective delivery of patient care and evaluate training outcomes.
Assist with the coordination and delivery of key certifications such as ACLS, PALS, BLS, and NRP.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational activities to ensure high-quality, cost-effective healthcare delivery.
Facilitate communication and partnerships with internal and external agencies, including nursing schools and other training organizations.
Participate in evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities and patient outcomes.
Serve as a resource for staff in identifying educational resources and solutions to support their development.
Additional Responsibilities:
Provide guidance during hospital emergency events and actively participate in relevant emergency preparedness activities.
Actively participate in Nursing Service goal setting and discussions regarding department or area issues.
Ensure the ongoing evaluation of educational programs, providing feedback to enhance their effectiveness.
Participate in Nurse Executive Committee meetings and apply insights from those meetings to improve education and training initiatives.
Maintain up-to-date certifications, licensure, and annual competencies.
Education and Certifications:
Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Education, Sociology, or related field.
Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Alaska.
Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS instructor certification.
Additional certifications such as NRP are a plus.
Experience:
5 years of professional nursing experience, with at least 2 years of experience in a specialty (e.g., ER, ICU, OB, OR).
At least 1 year of experience in a nursing supervisory role.
Previous experience in Med/Surg, Outpatient, and/or Remote Rural settings is preferred.
3 years of teaching or instructor experience, ideally in a hospital or college setting.
Experience in adult education or method of instruction training may substitute for teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and patient care in various specialties.
Strong background in nursing management and care for adult and geriatric populations.
Ability to collaborate and develop evidence-based standards of care and training modalities.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, for creating and delivering effective educational materials.
Ability to create a supportive learning environment and develop training programs tailored to all levels of nursing care.
Ability to initiate and provide leadership in managing emergency situations and patient care protocols.
