Automation Robotics Engineer II About The Job
With a focus on Automation projects, use broad spectrum engineering expertise to design, implement, install, and support the creation of high-quality controls, machines, automation and other mechanically or electronically functioning equipment to support advancing manufacturing processes both within the company ecosystem, and the general industry through company industrial equipment sales. Apply engineering expertise to proactively identify problems and creatively provide solutions. Will be responsible for leading, directing, and collaborating in Client project scope identification & planning, R&D, prototyping, testing, and release to manufacturing of new, and improvements to existing, Automation equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Adheres to company polices and presents a professional, positive attitude at all times.
- Apply broad-based engineering principles and practices to the design and creation of Automation utilized both within the production environment at Client and sold to the General Industry.
- Develop the safe and economical specifications of project portion's structural design using computer-aided design (CAD) and other software.
- Design, program, and implement automation control systems, electromechanical systems, PLCs, or other electronics as required for high-speed automation and precision handling systems.
- Execute automation technology projects end-to-end from project planning to implementation.
- Lead, direct, &/or perform on-site commissioning of automation equipment.
- Attend Client meetings and presentations as required by Account Management
- Specify and Identify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
- Diagnose equipment failures and consumer difficulties to support existing automation.
- Conduct feasibility studies and other design tests to analyze the operation and performance of equipment, components, or systems.
- Work effectively with, lead, and advise other Company personnel in a group or individually to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
- Design test control apparatus and equipment using 3D printing or other rapid prototyping techniques.
- Develop standardized and repeatable procedures for testing products.
- Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification.
- Estimate costs and submit bids for engineering, construction, or other projects.
- Provide feedback to management concerning current projects and other needs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
- Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
- Compute mathematical formulas to develop detailed specifications for components or machinery.
- Layout and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines.
- Work with Vendors to obtain products, prototypes, samples, schematics, product information and other materials pertaining to new and existing designs.
- Layout, draw, or reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering Required: Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, & Manufacturing Disciplines are Preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of experience managing technical projects is required
- 5+ years' experience in manufacturing equipment/tool design/development required.
- 5+ years' experience in design for manufacturing required.
- At least 3 years' experience in integration of robotics and automation required.
- At least 3 years' experience with any of the following Robotic Automation (Articulating Arm, SCARA, DELTA, Gantry, or other type of Robot):
- Palletizing / De-Palletizing
- Pick & Place / Material Handling
- Machine Tending
- Welding
- Food Processing
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other common software is required.
- Expert use of CAD is required. Solidworks proficiency required.
- Experience in plant layout or offline programming software highly preferred. Visual Components, Octopuz, KUKA Sim experience or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of 5 successful design to iteration to implementation Automation support projects completed is required.
